Car sharing is becoming increasingly popular in Germany. Already today, more than one million people use services such as car2go or DriveNow. (Bundesverband CarSharing e.V. (bcs); 01.01.2015). Hence, this is a good reason for the ECE Future Labs to look into this subject.
PILOT PROJECT IN HAMBURG WITH CAR2GO
In a pilot project with the Alsteral Einkaufszentrum in Hamburg, we have fitted the entire car2go fleet in the city – which has over 700 vehicles – with RFID cards and created special parking spaces in the center's car park: With the RFID (radio frequency identification), car2go users can simply drive into the center's car park, park the car2go vehicle in one of the marked spaces, end the rental and go shopping in the AEZ.
CONVENIENT FOR THE CUSTOMER
The advantage for the customer: He can use the convenient and directly connected shopping center parking with a car sharing vehicle without having to rent the vehicle for the duration of the visit to the center. Additionally, there is no need for a parking ticket and the parking fees are already included in the car sharing vehicle rental.
